Effective communication is a fundamental for success. One reason you find it difficult to communicate now is because you lack clarity about what you’re trying to accomplish and you haven’t identified the main objective of each action you take. It’s very difficult for others to get excited about what you have to offer if they don’t understand what’s in it for them.
Communication is enhanced by listening more than speaking. An effective communicator is focused on understanding beyond a superficial level. The only way to have that level of understanding is through effective listening. As you strive to achieve success you will need to obtain the support and trust of other people. You’ll need to understand what they want or need. Effective communicators are able to succinctly communicate how they can help others to fulfill their wants or needs.
Communication is a fundamental for success because at some point you need to capture the attention of others long enough for them to understand your message. When you can communicate to the people whose support you need as if you’re entering the conversation that’s already going on in their head, it doesn’t matter what form of communication you use they will hang on your every word. They will read or listen until they’ve absorbed your full message, and after you’ve addressed their likely objections they’ll be able to make a yes or no decision.
At some point you’ll need other people to make a yes or no decision in regard to what you have to offer. When you focus on communicating your level of understanding about their want or need ahead of pure persuasion it’s actually way more persuasive than the so called persuasive language many advertisers try to use. Communication is at least a two way process. You send a message, the receiver responds to your message, and you respond to their response. The more clarity you have in your communication, the more focused you are on achieving one objective from the communication the more likely you are to succeed in having a good communication.
You won’t achieve success unless you’re a good communicator. Know what you’re trying to communicate first and the objective of the communication based on your understanding of the needs and wants of others. Use your level of understanding to enter the conversation in the receivers head and answer the objections they may have for taking action. When two people have the same information they’ll usually reach the same conclusion. Good communicators understand and respect the importance of communication in achieving success.
